Part of a process oriented approach to supporting work involves not only developing processes, but testing and simulating them. There has never been an adequate standard for simulation … until now described in this excellent article: Leading BPM Vendors Collaborate on Next-Gen Business Process Simulation Standard.
Denis Gagné and Robert Shapiro are the motivating forces behind the group which include all of the major simulation players in the industry. The group is open to all, as a special effort of the WfMC to allow everyone to come to the table and define the right standard.
The standard allows you to create a simulation scenario, and then reuse it many times in different products. This is not just a specification; they also have example files which can be read by four or five actual products, and can produce comparable results. Well worth following this development.
